Break Glass to Play
This seven-piece series was created in response to the artist’s concern about society’s trend towards overprotecting our children. The series reflects that we are removing all aspects of risk and wrapping children in bubblewrap, prohibiting any game or activity that may educate them on risk and therefore removing their natural curiosity.
The irony of denying a child the ability to learn from experience is that it leaves them vulnerable as adults. Children unaware of danger signs lack the ability to assess danger in adulthood. The artist further believes that this removal of risk has contributed to the startling rise of mental health issues in young adults.
The collection explores childhood through ordinary objects in extraordinary materials.
