Freedom of Speech
The artist suggests, freedom of speech is under attack and being eroded in modern society. Controversial topics, such as transgender rights, safeguarding, and a desire to delete unsavoury elements of history, highlight a fear of being offended or causing offence - despite the subjective nature of offence making it impossible to eradicate.
The artist observes that there is nothing from his childhood world that has not been affected by the digital age, and that the internet providing unbridled access to information has not extended freedom of speech, but rather destroyed it.
The project features a figure representing freedom of speech, ‘embalmed’ in honey inside a sarcophagus carved from clear crystal quartz. Limited edition of nine pieces.
